Sedation Options

Choose Your Level of Comfort

Dr. Naser offers sedation options to match your level of anxiety, the complexity of your procedure, and your personal comfort preferences.

😮‍💨
Mild

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

A colorless, odorless gas delivered through a small mask placed over your nose. Within minutes you feel calm, warm, and relaxed. It wears off completely within minutes after the mask is removed — you can even drive yourself home.

  • Wears off in minutes — no driver needed
  • Great for mild to moderate anxiety
  • Allows normal communication throughout
  • Safe for most patients including children
💊
Moderate

Oral Conscious Sedation

A prescription sedative pill (typically Triazolam or Halcion) taken about an hour before your appointment. You remain conscious and able to respond but feel deeply relaxed and drowsy. Many patients doze off and wake with little memory of the visit.

  • No needles required
  • Produces deep relaxation and amnesia effect
  • Driver required — effects last several hours
  • Ideal for moderate anxiety or longer procedures
💉
Deep

IV Sedation

Sedative medication delivered directly into the bloodstream through a small IV, producing a sleep-like state almost immediately. You remain breathing on your own but have little to no memory of the procedure. Dr. Naser can complete more work in a single visit.

  • Deepest relaxation — near sleep state
  • Nearly zero memory of the procedure
  • Ideal for complex cases, multiple extractions, or All-on-4
  • Driver required — someone to accompany you home
🏥
Full

General Anesthesia

Complete unconsciousness administered by a certified anesthesiologist. Reserved for the most complex surgical cases or patients with severe dental phobia where other sedation options are insufficient. Performed in an accredited surgical setting.

  • Complete unconsciousness throughout
  • Monitored by a dedicated anesthesiologist
  • For highly complex or lengthy procedures
  • Requires pre-operative evaluation

Sedation May Be Right for You

You don't have to be severely phobic to benefit from sedation dentistry. Many patients choose it simply because they prefer not to feel or hear anything during their procedure — and that's a perfectly valid reason.

Sedation is especially helpful when multiple procedures need to be done in a single visit, as it allows Dr. Naser to work for longer periods without you feeling discomfort or fatigue.

  • Dental anxiety or phobia of any level
  • Strong gag reflex that complicates treatment
  • Difficulty sitting still for long periods
  • Sensitive teeth or low pain tolerance
  • Previous traumatic dental experiences
  • Extensive treatment needed in one visit (All-on-4, full extractions)
  • Complex bone grafting or sinus lift procedures
  • Preference for a more relaxed, comfortable experience

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Dr. Naser is trained and certified in sedation protocols. Your vital signs are monitored continuously throughout the procedure and reversal agents are always on hand. Sedation dentistry has an excellent safety record when administered by a qualified provider — and we perform a full health screening before every sedation case.
It depends on the sedation level you choose. Nitrous oxide keeps you fully awake but deeply relaxed. Oral sedation produces a drowsy, dream-like state — most patients doze off. IV sedation creates a near-sleep state with little to no memory of the procedure. General anesthesia produces complete unconsciousness and is reserved for complex surgical cases.
Absolutely. Many patients choose sedation for implant placement, bone grafting, sinus lifts, and full-arch procedures like All-on-4 or All-on-6. Sedation allows Dr. Naser to complete more work in a single visit, reducing the total number of appointments you need.
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes — you can drive yourself home. Oral sedation effects can linger for 4–6 hours, so you'll need a driver. IV sedation also requires a driver and someone to stay with you for a few hours. Most patients feel fully recovered by the following morning.
Coverage varies by plan. Some insurance plans cover a portion of sedation costs when it is deemed medically necessary. Our team will verify your benefits before your appointment and help you understand your out-of-pocket costs. Flexible financing through CareCredit and Lending Club is also available.
For oral sedation and IV sedation, yes — you will be asked to avoid food and drink (except small sips of water for medications) for a period before your appointment, typically 6–8 hours. Dr. Naser's team will give you exact instructions when you schedule. Nitrous oxide generally does not require fasting.
Yes. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation are needle-free. If you later decide you'd like IV sedation, the oral sedative taken beforehand makes the IV placement virtually unnoticeable — many patients don't even remember it happening.
